7.15.07 - Pan American games... · Jul 15, 03:16 PM
We can hear the cheers of the Brazilians as they cheer on their runners and cyclists, while in the background is a battleship sitting just off the coast with its radar going around and the never ending whir of the helicopters most likely filming the events.

I can’t help but wonder what it must look like from the USA as we watch from our window, getting a bird’s eye view of the whole scene.

The whole street (Rua Atlantica) is blocked off for the participants of the games. Everyone is excited as they watch today’s events. Vendors are everywhere selling everything you can imagine…jewelry, beach towels, cover-ups, cotton candy, cold drinks and much more. These events are scheduled for July 12-26, 2007.

Joseph is feeling better now. He has been a little under the weather for a few days.

We went for a long walk last night up the Copacabana Beach, around by the Fort and then along the Ipanema Beach. I remember hearing the song, “The Girl from Ipanema” when I was young and it seemed so dreamy to me…now here I am, walking the same beach and it still seems like a dream.

Joseph said the guy who wrote the song, Tom Joplin, actually wrote it about a beautiful girl he watched walk on the Ipanema Beach every day and that once the song became popular, he stopped her one day to tell her the song was written about her. We had a delicious pepperoni pizza at a place called Devassa and a yummy vanilla ice cream cone dipped in white chocolate for dessert.
