“marvelous comrades” PSA 16:5 · Mar 27, 10:15 PM
PSA 16:5 The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; Thou dost support my lot.
The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.
As an update…the last few tests have been good. The PET scan shows NO tumors at this time and my blood work shows that the tumor marker has dropped from 50 (last August) to 26 in the most recent test a week ago. The oncologist also ordered a Breast MRI because of some tenderness I was experiencing, but it too came back normal. My foot and wrist have healed nicely and there is almost no pain now (and I am being super careful in the shower).. I am able to wear my shoes once again and the bone density exam revealed no osteoporosis. I am on a three week schedule for chemo now, for which I am glad. The extra week makes such a difference in my ability to enjoy life.
A few weeks ago we received word that a dear friend had passed away. It was a very difficult time for me and I wept many days over her death. She was a marvelous comrade to me in the battle we shared. We were both diagnosed around the same time, went through chemo, lost our hair together, and compared hats when we saw each other at conferences, rejoicing when we both regained our hair.
I prayed for her as I am sure she prayed for me for over three years, holding up the shield of faith for one another, much like soldiers on in a battle on a foreign field, but I was not prepared to lose her. The last time I saw her; she made her way through the crowd and embraced me. I commented on her hair and we giggled when she told me it was a wig. It was so strange, we had never really known each other until we met on this battleground, but here we were hugging and crying over our most recent battles and victories.
An old song talks about the “marvelous comrades” the Lord has given us…she was a marvelous comrade and I shall miss her greatly. I don’t know why I am allowed to live and she was not, but I do know that God does and that He loves us both and that she will be waiting to embrace me again when I arrive in heaven. Until then, I am grateful for the comrades I have been given to walk out this life with and grateful for the many blessings I have. Life is good and the lines have fallen out to me in pleasant places…thanks for your prayers!
Blessings,
Debbie
