Life is a Temporary Assignment · Apr 9, 08:52 AM
I hope you had a wonderful Easter celebration this past weekend. Debbie and I, with about 20 or 25 of our family, friends and neighbors welcomed the rising sun on Easter morning by the water. It was cold! I had George Harrison’s song running through my mind “Here comes the sun, little darling.”
There are 3 Purpose-Driven Life discussions planned this week for Tuesday night at 9:00 PM next to the Graham Center, Wednesday at noon at the outdoor table just outside Astrid’s office, and Sunday night at 8:00 PM in Homestead at Ruth’s apartment. If you are busy working on final papers, and will not have time to make one or to read the “DAY 6” study, there is a brief 200 word summary below for your own reflection. Prayers and blessings! ~ Joseph

Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered, and that my life is fleeing away (Psalm 39:4).
I am here on earth for just a little while (Psalm 119:19).
Life on earth is a temporary assignment. Life is described as “a mist, a fast runner, a breath, and a wisp of smoke.”
Never forget two truths: compared with eternity, life is extremely brief. Second, earth is only a temporary residence. You won’t be here long, so don’t get too attached.
A fish would never be happy living on land because it was made for water. An eagle could never feel satisfied if it could not fly. You will never feel completely satisfied on earth because you were made for more.
C.S. Lewis said: “All that is not eternal is eternally useless.”
Quote: “We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18).
Question: do you occasionally tune into the unseen spiritual world around you?
Point to Ponder: This world is not my home.
Question to consider: How should the fact that life on earth is just a temporary assignment change the way I am currently living?
There are some additional questions for discussion on-line at
http://www.purposedrivenlife.com/samplechapters/Default.aspx?N=47
1. If the only thing that is going to last for eternity is your relationship to God, what are the implication for your values, your priorities, your possessions and your schedule?
2. Since God is more interested in your character than your comfort, how does that change the way your should view and respond to your problems?
3. Do you know anyone who has already gone on to heaven? Based on what you have read in this study, what do you think they would like to say to you if they could?
