Do we change nothing and just keep doing what we have been doing? It was Albert Einstein who defined insanity as “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

I am sitting beside an open window drinking my coffee early on Friday morning. Yesterday, I heard about another friend who’s wife just discovered that she has advanced cancer. This morning, Debbie was telling me about meeting with a friend of hers yesterday who has been going through chemo-therapy and who looked gaunt. Despite getting eight hours sleep last night, Debbie had trouble keeping her eyes open this morning and felt “tired.” I just encouraged her to go back to bed.

Those of you who are aware that Debbie was diagnosed with stage-4 breast cancer about 18 months ago, will understand that we have spent a lot of time recently thinking about what lies beyond this life…and what is the real meaning of this life.
Besides that, having arrived at the seasoned age of 56 (birthday at the end of April), I have more of my life behind me than in front of me. These two circumstances lead to deep reflection about not only the meaning of life, but its brevity.
