The Road goes ever on and on Down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, And I must follow, if I can, Pursuing it with eager feet, Until it joins some larger way Where many paths and errands meet. And whither then? I cannot say. -J. R. R. Tolkien

WATCH AND PRAY · Mar 27, 11:05 PM

The teaching of Jesus I am focusing on this month is Jesus’ encouragement to us to “watch and pray” that we not enter into temptation.

I want to thank you all for your prayers for us in this past year…probably the most difficult year of our lives. Debbie is doing much better…and Ruth is really happy serving God in Costa Rica with the Johnsons.

IF YOU LOVE HIM, KEEP HIS COMMANDS · Mar 27, 10:47 PM

a lot has happened in the last few weeks…finished the thesis, painted two houses, moved back to our old house, and spoke at a family camp in Ohio. We returned from Ohio yesterday, and I dropped Deb off from the airport and drove straight to FIU to class. The next month will be a whirlwind. Ruth is leaving in 10 days for 3 months of mission work with Jamie Johnson in Costa Rica. Please pray for her safe travels, her back, and for her financial support.

Be Born Again? · Mar 21, 10:10 PM

August 6, 2006 – I think there is a serious misapplication of the concept of the new birth among many Christians and churches. The new birth is not a “magical” experience that earns us a free ticket to heaven or gives us fire insurance or makes us better than other people. It is simply a doorway into a new way to live, something Dallas Willard calls the “governance of heaven” or the “life of faith and love from heaven.” Many Christians are “born again” and then spend the rest of their lives standing in the doorway, or not even that. They never go through the door into the process of learning from Jesus and becoming like Him…submitting their lives to Him.

Take and Eat · Mar 21, 10:05 PM

Friday, June 30, 2006 – We have double good news today. Deb got back her pathology report from the surgery, and there was NO evidence of active cancer in her vertebrae! We are rejoicing with this good news. If any of you want to receive occasional updates from Debbie, her email is dkholbrook70@hotmail.com

AWAIT HIS RETURN · Mar 21, 09:59 PM

April 16, 2006 – Deb had her last chemo therapy treatment today. Thanks for your prayers. We had a wonderful trip to Europe.

We have been thinking a lot about eternity lately. Debbie found a quote from Jim Elliott’s diary recently that expresses deeply something I have been thinking about: ‘When it comes time to die, make sure all you have to do is die.’

LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR · Mar 21, 09:56 PM

March 29, 2006 – It is 8:30 AM here in Brussels and most of you in the US are asleep. Deb and I have been having a wonderful trip in Europe. Last week, we were at a gathering of missionaries and apostles in Wales, where we are deeply refreshed and encouraged. This week, we are visiting our dear friends Paul and Rebecca Petrie in Belgium. Tomorrow we fly to Dublin for a few days of vacation. I have attached a photo of Deb and I in Bourton-on-the-water, in England (near Oxford) where we learned to enjoy the British custom of “creamed tea”.

LOVE THE LORD · Mar 21, 09:49 PM

March 3, 2006 – One of the most important teachings of Jesus is to LOVE GOD. I have been savoring this study for a while. In fact, over the last 9 months or so, things have gotten real simple for me. Love God. Love Debbie. Live today. Love my kids and friends. Love my neighbors as they come and go in my life. Love God. Tomorrow, get up and do it again.
